Making Drones is an open source course for students from 8 to 17 years old that has taken place at the Massimiliano Massimo Institute in Rome in 2014/2015. Its objective is to teach how design, build and pilot professional drones. It is one of its kind  considering age, contents and didactic approach. The course is organized as a competition where teams play games while learning and working.

Students enjoyed their piloting ability by achieving a world record: the highest number of drones simultaneously piloted by minors(50).

The course experienced extensive, worldwide media coverage when Pope Francis received a professional drone built by Making Drones' younger students. Main Italian TV news and over 400 world press newspapers have published the event.

This free course has been designed by Claudio Becchetti and Fr. Sergio Cavicchia SJ with the help of 14 volunteers with industrial, technical or educational experience:

Marco Carli, Michele Caprasecca, Dante Dessena, Massimiliano Di Dio, Marco De Palma, Federica Pascucci, Fabrizio Olati, Laura Passamonti, Augusto Reggiani, Fabio Topani, Giovanna De Maio, Donato Puoti, Renato Reggiani, Agostino Ruberto)

Also, on May 30th, the Rome Drone Expo & Airshow hosted the 50 drones on the runway of Urbe Airport
